A tribute to Sandy Grant Gordon

Think Long Term

An audio tribute to Sandy Grant Gordon, one of the founders of single malt.

A passionate student, unusual businessman, family man, and a true Scot. We share an audio tribute to Sandy Grant Gordon recorded by Peter Gordon, one of Sandy's four children and former chairman of William Grant & Sons.

Peter has made this audio recording of the family’s official obituary for Sandy, recounting three chapters of his father’s life:

For all his business and charitable achievements, he will always be remembered by his children as the humble, humorous, enthusiastic and brilliant man devoted to his wife, family and pets.

Peter Gordon

In this fascinating insight into the man known affectionately as Mr Sandy, Peter talks about his father's lifelong passion for bird watching and the outdoors, Sandy's sense of duty to his dying father when he joined the Company in 1953 and how being an audacious rule breaker brought Glenfiddich to the world.

Peter also describes his father's love for Scottish Piping over five decades, his charitable work and bagging – climbing - all of Scotland's 282 Munros (mountains over 3,000 feet).
