Working with so many markets across APAC & India builds a rich new perspective!
Sean Wiemann joined William Grant & Sons more than a decade ago in Dublin. Since then, he’s held a variety of roles and work across several regions.
After working with, launching, and nurturing a number of brands across global markets including a tenure with Monkey Shoulder which led to a move to South East Asia, Sean is now the Global Business Development Lead for Glenfiddich in Asia-Pacific and Global Travel Retail.
“You never feel disconnected in this company as there’s a good culture where you can realise new opportunities,” says Sean.
“Even when you’re geographically far away from people, you still feel linked.”
Incredible and rewarding moves
Sean’s career at William Grant & Sons has seen him work across a variety of regions, including the US, Dublin and Singapore.
“It’s not just a change in work, but it’s personally life-changing too,” he reflects. “Relocating for a role exposes you to different cultures and a different perspective on life itself and I find this incredibly enriching and rewarding.”
“When the chance came up to take on a marketing position in Asia with the Monkey Shoulder team a few years ago, it felt like a really exciting opportunity for me to supplement my previous experience,” he adds.
Following his work on growing the Monkey Shoulder brand in Asia, Sean joined the Global Luxury Team leading the development of Wildmoor and our Luxury Portfolio activation, then moving on to his current position in the Glenfiddich Maison overseeing execution standards and activation excellence across Asia-Pacific and Global Travel Retail.
“The opportunity came up and I was keen to supplement my past experiences with a more commercially-focused role. It’s great to have more exposure to the inner workings of our markets.”
Try taking a different perspective
And if you’re thinking about re-locating for your career, Sean’s advice is try it at least once, where possible.
“Do it! It broadens your perspective, supports your personal and professional development and is always something I would encourage.”
“Every day there’s something new here: new work, new home, new people – and new weather! Having moved from Ireland, to the US, to Germany and now Singapore over my career, each experience has always added something positive.”
“It’s might not be for everyone,” he states, “but if you have a desire for a different perspective and the willingness to take a chance on somewhere new you should try it.”
Creating a legacy
Sean’s had many achievements during his time with us, and despite all there’s, there’s one thing that’s kept him here – the people.
“There’s been many proud moments. I’d say creating Wildmoor, driving our latest Glenfiddich Glenfiddich x Aston Martin Formula One™ Team partnership across the regions and the work on Glenfiddich XS launch in China really stand out”, he reflects.
“The people have kept me at William Grant & Sons. I’ve been fortunate to have some great leaders who have helped me develop and who have given me the freedom to grow into a number of different roles.”
“And, of course, the brands. I am tremendously proud to have worked across iconic brands such as Monkey Shoulder, The Balvenie and Glenfiddich.”
